1) Good News

The 'extended medical degree programme', a widening participation course in medicine, at Kings College, which makes extensive use of Bright Journals, has just had its first batch of students from disadvantaged backgrounds qualify as doctors http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/education/6252656.stm

This is great news and a real success for King's WP programme. It will still be two to three years before the first Bright Journal mentees qualify (a number of these will have joined BJ through King's WP scheme in 2003), but we'll certainly be interested to hear about and celebrate these med school graduations when they happen.
