I think this is a real interesting issue? Is this the parents fault? Parents from BME groups do seem to expect more from their children whilst those from white working families don't seem to care. Is this therefore more about engaging and specifically targeting these whole families.

RAE is really keen to focus on socially disadvantaged white british boys for their engineering diploma in addition to BME and women (currently underrepresented). I think the engineering diploma and others might actually be an interesting route to capture these kids. As you can see I quite like this diploma - but it all depends on how schools ultimately deliver it to wherever it will succeed.
